Hydroxyethyl Cellulose Is A Nonionic Surfactant

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose Is A Nonionic Surfactant

As a non-ionic surfactant, hydroxyethyl cellulose has the following properties in addition to thickening, suspending, bonding, emulsifying, film-forming, dispersing, water-retaining and protective functions: 1. HEC is soluble in hot or cold water, and does not precipitate under high temperature or boiling, which makes it have a wide range of solubility and viscosity characteristics, that is, non-thermal gelation; 2. The non-ionic type itself can coexist with other water-soluble polymers, surfactants, and salts in a wide range, and is an excellent colloidal thickener containing high-concentration electrolyte solutions; 3. The water-retaining capacity is twice that of methyl cellulose, and it has better flow regulation; 4. Compared with the recognized methyl cellulose and hydroxypropyl cellulose, HEC has the worst dispersibility, but the strongest protective colloid ability.

1. Used in water-based emulsion coatings
HEC can be used as a protective colloid for acetic acid emulsion polymerization to improve the stability of the polymerization system in a wide pH range. In the manufacture of finished products, pigments, fillers and other additives are used to evenly disperse, stabilize and provide thickening effects. It can also be used as a dispersant for county floating polymers such as styrene, acrylates, and acrylonitrile.
2. Oil drilling
In various muds required for drilling, well setting, cementing and fracturing operations, HEC is used as a thickener to give the mud good fluidity and stability. In drilling, it improves the carrying capacity of the mud and prevents a large amount of water from entering the oil layer from the mud, stabilizing the production capacity of the oil layer.
3. Used in building materials construction and building materials
Due to its strong water retention capacity, HEC is an effective thickener and binder for cement slurry and mortar. Adding it to mortar can improve fluidity and construction performance, and can prolong the evaporation time of water, improve the initial strength of concrete and avoid cracks. Used for plastering gypsum, bonding gypsum, and gypsum putty can significantly improve its water retention and bonding strength.
4. Used in toothpaste
Due to its strong salt and acid resistance, HEC can ensure the stability of toothpaste paste. In addition, due to its water retention and emulsification ability, toothpaste is not easy to dry.
5. Used in water-based inks
HEC can make the ink dry quickly and not penetrate.
In addition, HEC is also widely used in textile printing, papermaking, daily chemicals, etc.
