Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC for short) is an anionic water-soluble cellulose ether, which is made by alkalization and etherification modification of natural cellulose. Construction-grade CMC features excellent thickening, water retention, bonding and suspension properties, and is widely used in dry-mixed mortar, putty powder, tile adhesive and other building materials fields, significantly improving construction performance and finished product quality.
Application scenarios in the field of architecture
Putty powder
Function: Thicken and retain water, improve the smoothness of application, and reduce powder shedding during grinding.
Recommended addition amount: 0.1% - 0.3% (by weight of dry powder).
Tile adhesive
Function: Enhance adhesion, extend open time, and prevent tile slippage.
Recommended addition amount: 0.2% - 0.5%.
Gypsum-based mortar
Function: Regulate the setting time, reduce bubbles, and improve surface finish.
Self-leveling mortar
Function: Control fluidity and prevent bleeding and stratification.
Usage suggestions
Dissolution method
Dry-mixing method: Pre-mix with fillers (such as cement, quartz sand), and then add water and stir.
Pre-sol method: Slowly add CMC to cold water and stir until a transparent colloid is formed (avoid direct pouring to prevent caking).
Construction environment
The recommended temperature range is 5 to 40 degrees Celsius. Avoid excessive exposure to high temperatures and direct sunlight to prevent rapid evaporation of moisture.
Common Problem Solving
Agglomeration: Ensure that the stirring speed is ≥800 rpm, or switch to the pre-solubilization method.
Insufficient viscosity: Check the purity of CMC or increase the addition amount.
